FAQ

I already pay for trash & recycling pickups, how is Ecovert any different?

We strive to close the gap left by curbside recycling programs. So many more items are recyclable or reused, however they require more hands-on sorting, transportation to donation centers or specialized processes to turn it into raw material that can be used to build new items so new synthetic raw materials don’t need to be created. The items picked up by curbside recycling programs work great for specific items, such as paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, cans and metals. This process feeds items into a large machine which filters and separates items into various recycling streams to be baled and sold to other manufacturers who can repurpose the material. However, what about the other items that cost more to be recycled, those that require specialized facilities such as batteries/lightbulbs/Styrofoam or items that could be reused/repurposed such as old clothes and blankets? Ecovert Recycling aims to bridge this gap by making the recycling and reuse of hard-to-recycle items as common and effortless as tossing a cardboard box into your recycling bin.

Where should I leave my items for pickup?

We recommend leaving items at the front door but you can leave your items anywhere that can be accessed by the public. If not at the front door, please detail the pickup location in the order notes upon purchasing the service. If using bags, we ask that they are put somewhere covered so they don’t get wet if it rains. For apartment complexes, please leave it somewhere that can be accessed by the public such as near the building entrance or by an outside bin.

Do I need to be home on the pickup day?

Nope! You do not need to be home for pickup. If paying with cash, please leave it with your bins.

What happens to my items after they are picked up?

Your items will be weighed, sorted and segregated based on end use or material type. Once enough of a category has been collected or at least once per month, they will be transported for donation or to a recycling facility where they will be processed/repurposed.

What time will my items be picked up?

Unfortunately, we can’t assign a specific time to pickups. Pickups are done between 9AM-5PM on Mondays.

What if the assigned pickup day doesn’t work for me?

Please contact us and we will work with your schedule to schedule a new day.

Why were some of my items not picked up?

Items that aren’t on our accepted list, hazardous wastes or contaminated items will be left behind.

How do I change or cancel a pickup/subscription?

Please contact us if you need to change or cancel a pickup/subscription. We hope to have an online account portal in the future for you to have more control over it yourself.

Do I need to sort my items?

Nope! All items can go in together. Let us do the sorting for you!

What if an item doesn’t fit into the bin?

If an item doesn’t fit in the bin, it can be left outside the bin and we will pick it up. Please make sure to mark any item left outside the bin or send us a message so we don’t accidentally pick up anything we aren’t supposed to! Please note, items outside the bin will incur an extra charge based on volume/quantity depending on the item type.

In the case of bad weather and we need to reschedule our pickup, you will be notified via email.

How do I know my stuff gets recycled or reused?

Once we receive your items, we weigh them and sort them based on their end use/material and we send out monthly reports with the total weight received and where the items went.

Why do you charge extra for certain items?

The facilities we bring certain materials to charge extra for processing and recycling some items. Some items are more difficult/labor intensive to recycle and have no/little cost benefit to them such as alkaline batteries. This results in an increased cost to both the recycling facility, us and to you.

Can I drop off my materials?

Unfortunately, we do not accept drop offs at this time.
